DIY Space Saving Makeup Vanity

I often dream about how amazing it would be to have full size makeup vanity in my apartment, along with big windows, a walk in closet, a dishwasher..... but I digress. Needless to say, I don't have an incredible amount of space in my Brooklyn apartment so I installed these shelves as a pseudo makeup vanity in my bathroom. Because they're just shelves and not a full vanity I have space to store other things underneath. Honestly, if I sit down to do my makeup I could be there for hours so it's probably better that I have to stand to do it anyway.

I picked these shelves because they perfectly match my bathroom, but you could always get another color or paint them. I also really like this other kind of shelf/drawer from Ikea as a makeup vanity idea, but I don't have room to pull out the full size drawers so I went with smaller sets of drawers instead. I like the fact that I have separate compartments for everything and can see it all, so that's another plus.

I installed these shelves using drywall anchors. On the Ikea directions it doesn't technically say that you have to do that but the shelves themselves are kind of heavy and I wanted to make sure they would hold whatever I put on them and not rip out of the wall. I'm especially glad I did that since my cat Ollie jumps onto them all the time. Is anyone else's cat obsessed with stealing makeup brushes to play with them, or is that just one of Ollie's many weird habits? Anyway, I'm happy I used those wall anchors!

Here are photos of the finished product!

I know what you're thinking... "Antonia, forget about the makeup vanity, where did you get that PRICELESS piece of artwork hanging above it?!" Well yeah it's a one of a kind piece that may or may not be a paint night painting I did, but I thought it looked cute there.

Here's the list of all the tools you're gonna need:

- Power Drill

- Drill Bit

- Dry Wall Anchors

And here's the links to the Shelves, Drawers, and Makeup Cup!

Shelves: EKBY JÄRPEN / EKBY BJÄRNUM ($16.99 each)

Makeup Drawers: InterDesign Office Desk Organizer ($9.49 on Amazon)

Makeup Cup: InterDesign Cosmetics Organizer Trio Cup ($9.52 on Amazon)

Have fun making this, or putting your own spin on it, let me know how it comes out!
